Terms of Service
Last updated: October 11, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing, browsing, or using the Backing & Score application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service"), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
2. Description of the Service
Backing & Score helps musicians practise pieces from a personal library, interactive music books or the public-domain catalogue, express their performances and create music videos with synchronised moving scores through Score Cinema. Stage/Player provides browser playback and practice tools; accounts can save supported content. Chapters, tools and exports depend on format, source rights, edition and plan. Existing classrooms are separate teaching tools. StageScore is a separate offline PDF reader without a web account or web-book progress.
3. Subscriptions and Billing
We offer free access with stated limits and the Score Cinema Creator subscription. Book purchases are separate from Creator; any other plan is governed by its checkout offer. See Pricing for the current features and limits:
- Auto-Renewal: Subscription plans will automatically renew at the end of the billing period unless canceled prior to the renewal date.
- Billing: You will be billed through our merchant of record, Polar, for web purchases. If a purchase is offered through an app store, that store handles the transaction under its own terms. We never receive or store your card details.
- Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time. Upon cancellation, you will retain access to premium features until the end of your current paid billing cycle.
4. Single Purchases (A-la-carte)
Edited music books or other identified digital content may be offered for a one-time fee. The product page states what is included and which chapters are ready. An access entitlement lets you use that edition under its stated licence; it does not buy ownership of the music or automatically grant rights to publish a recording or video. See the Refund Policy.
5. Content and Copyright
Two different kinds of content live here, and the rules are not the same for both.
- Our catalog. Interactive books, editorial guidance, sheet music and examples we create or license. Only our editorial team publishes to it. Where content is licensed from rights holders, we account to them from our own subscription and sales records. We do not report your individual listening or practice history to publishers or rights organisations — see the Privacy Policy.
- Content you upload. Files you place in your Drive stay yours. They are private by default, are not automatically indexed, and do not enter our public catalog. We host them for your use and the sharing explicitly available to you. Publishing a Cinema package or community style is a separate action, not automatic publication of Drive files.
- Your licence to our catalog. You are granted a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to play it. You may not extract, reproduce, redistribute, or use the audio or score data for commercial public performance without obtaining the necessary mechanical and performance licences independently.
- Videos and reusable settings. Permission to export is separate from rights in the composition, edition, recording, footage and images. A Creator subscription or book purchase does not override a source restriction. Use only material you have the rights to publish. Cinema packages share settings and MIDI edits; they do not transfer source ownership or grant another reader access to a private score.
- Your responsibility for what you upload. You confirm you have the right to use and share what you put here. If a rights holder reports it, we review and may restrict access to it — see the Copyright page for how that works and how to appeal.
6. The Service's software
Parts of the Service run in your browser (for example Score Cinema). That code is still ours and is licensed to you, not sold. You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use it through backingscore.com and our apps. You may not:
- copy, mirror, re-host or redistribute the Service's software, in whole or in part;
- remove, disable or work around the checks that decide who may use a feature, including paid features such as Score Cinema Creator;
- sell, rent or offer the software, or access to it, to others.
We may suspend or close accounts that do so, and take the steps the law allows against copies published elsewhere.
7. Educator and User-Generated Content
You are responsible for the material you upload, the Cinema packages or visual styles you choose to publish, and content shared in existing classes. Respect copyright and the privacy and consent of people in recordings or footage. Public styles contain visual recipes, not permission to reuse someone’s music. We may restrict infringing content or accounts, including repeated unauthorized sharing; report concerns through Copyright or support.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Backing & Score shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from your use of the Service.
9. Contact Information
